January 2013 Show and Tell

This is the back of 'Golden Treasures', Alison's diptych scheduled to be at the Central Goldfields Art Gallery's first Biennial Contemporary Art Quilt exhibition which opens on 23 February 2013 and runs until 7 April 2013.  So I can't show you the front until after the exhibition opens.
This is 'Ancient Water', another one of Alison's, with painted vlysofix under organza.

This one, 'Blue Green Algae', is Alison's contribution to the SAQA art quilt auction.
And the last one from Alison, this month's Over Achiever, is from the New Ways with Kantha workshop that the Mosman Night Owls did in October with Carolyn Sullivan and has now been cut up and put on DL cards.

Another work started in our workshop with Carolyn Sullivan comes from Rhonda Stein.  There was quite a bit of discussion about the framing fabrics ... how much should show, how big should the piece be ... with the consensus that it should have wide fabric borders.  Of course, final artistic control remains with the maker, so we'll just have to wait to see what Rhonda decides!

There were also some knitting and joining going on while I unpicked some of the squares in my hand-pieced quilt top that was supposed to be square.
But I was enjoying my hand piecing so sporadically that it somehow ended up more rectangular than square.  Quite embarrassing for an engineer, let me tell you!  But it's almost back on track.  Who knew that unpicking could take so much time?
